Ibusa, You Need a Football Club

I wish to commend Ibusa Sports Club for successfully organizing the sports event tagged “Fame Award Night” at Colonnades Hotel, Ikoyi which attracted even the interest of Nigerian Football Federation and various personalities from Ibusa including Prof Pat Utomi, Prof Anthony Arinze and Dr. Henry Nzekwu. In the words of the President-General of the Club while delivering a key-note address “the whole exercise is in tandem with the new spirit in ICDU to promote, propagate and utilize the enormous potentials in our human resources …”

There is no gainsaying that Ibusa is one town or call it city with quite enormous human resources abounding, and I make bold to state that if these resources are well utilized, the Ibusa and by extension Anioma society will be transformed overnight and collectively the larger society can bequeath something substantial to the development of the entire country socially, economically and politically. As already known, only a few communities in the country today can challengingly compare with Ibusa in the area of human recourses and Ibusa has greatly demonstrated this over the time.

In the past the problem militating against this development is lack of expression of will among the various elites of the community to come together and render communal assistance towards the development of the town, and indeed this is quite necessary if the town is to move progressively and developmentally. As the history of the town has continued to demonstrate, disharmony has been the bane of the progress in the town. And the earlier, the youths of the town begin the take keen interest in the town the better for the community, for any community lacking the presence of the government, should not also be expected to lack the presence of her own people.

When the youthful indigenes of the town act in abandonment of the community and setting up factories, industries and housing estates in other nearby communities like Asaba, developments will continue to elude our own very Ibusa, because they have been unfairly exported to other communities, while the town is orphaned. And does he who invites ant-infested fagots complain at the sight of lizards? It is time we began to ask ourselves why Ibusa has recently earned the “Millionaires paradise” yet the town remains grossly underdeveloped without visible factories that should engage the youths, occupation wise.

The effort of Ibusa Sports Club and ICDU in organizing sports award is most commendable because this will help in putting the community in the sports map of the nation as some of our sons and daughters have contributed to the development of sports especially football nationally and internationally. At least Ibusa can today boast of ex-Nigerian Internationals Kingsley Obiekwu, Vivian Okolo and Michael Ochei, and ex-Polish International, Emmanuel Olisadebe among several others.

Efforts should also be made by capable Ibusa indigene(s) to set up a football club in the name of the town, which will favorably compete with the premiere club sides we have in the country at present, this will in no doubt bring glory to Ibusa our only town.
